French Food Friday...Poires gratinées au roquefort

photo and recipe from here

Bonjour mes belles,

It is pear season here in France and I thought that this recipe was an interesting one when I first stumbled across it. The French classify this as a dessert recipe but I  thought that it would make for a great starter.....English version follows on after the original recipe.

Poires gratinées au roquefort

Ingrédients

  • 150 g de Roquefort
  • 4   belles poires pas trop mûres
  • 75 g de mascarpone
  • 30 g de pignons de pin
  • 1 petit verre de porto ou de banyuls
  • 1/2 citron

Accompagnements

Un Porto ou un Banyuls

and now in English.....

Ingredients

150 g Roquefort
4 large ripe pears
• 75 g mascarpone
30 g of pine nuts
1 small glass of port or Banyuls
1/2 lemon

METHOD
Turn on the grill.

Peel the pears and cut them in half. Rub immediately with half a lemon to prevent the flesh from darkening.

Using a small spoon remove the heart and dig a hole a little bigger.

Arrange the pear halves on a plate.

Crush the Roquefort then mix with the mascarpone and port. Place the mixture in the core of the pears.

Sprinkle with pine nuts and some pepper then  brown in the oven about 10 minutes.

Serve with the same wine used to stuff the pears.

....bon appetite à tous, Leeann

The Fashion Pack: Capucine Safyurtlu @ SS-2014 Fashion Weeks

Capucine's look for last fashion weeks. What do you think, are these minimal-chic looks still appealing? Or since the french ediotors only dress like this have they become some kind of uniform?

Dei tessuti e altre sciagure / Fabrics and other Disasters

Episodio 1- anno imprecisato dell'asilo
Malattia infettiva no, intolleranza, allergia alimentare? Cosa?Nessuno ne capisce. Poi dopo giorni arriva l'illuminazione: è allergia.

Ci vado a scuola.

No perché è praticamente impossibile.

Suvvia!

True story

I top e i vestiti sintetici, soprattutto quelli estivi poi, però no. E no.
Non transigo. E ne sono felice.

ENGLISH SUMMARY:
My own pamphlet on why I do not wear synthetic clothing anymore.

1. I am allergic to elastan
Which makes it incredibly difficult for me to find lingerie and panties for example. Did you ever tried to search for cotton panties without elastan or spandex? It's sooo difficult. Or so expensive...

2. I do not buy anything 100% polyester
That's a conscious choice.
I don't want to pay hundreds of Euros for a synthetic designer top. That's not ethic. And not healthy for your skin and body.
I prefer to pay a 50 more but for a 100% silk top. The weird thing is that the difference between a designer synthetic shirt, for example, and a designer silk one is often quite small. I really do not get why people do buy polyester for the same price.

3. I do not shop or support chinese online stores.
(Even those that are quite popular among a lot of bloggers).
They do NOT give any info about the composition of their clothing. Which is mandatory in Europe and I think also the US. And If they do, they're never correct. Once I got a "cotton" T-shirt gifted from a chinese store. When it arrived it was pure plastic and smelled terribly.
No, thanks, never again.

Maybe shopping has become more difficult this way for me. And maybe more expensive.
But I'm happy with my choices. I really am.

What about you? Do you care? Do you consider fabrics before buying clothes?

The Space - Hair & Beauty Loft

Here they come again: under-the-knee-high boots.
Or do you still prefer ankle booties?

last day...

jour de marché à Castillonnes ce matin

Bonjour mes belles,

It is a bit of a strange day for me  today as this morning was our last morning in the shop that we have in the nearby village of Castillonnes. We have made a lot of friends in the 6 months that we have had the shop and enjoyed being part of the weekly market as we had a stall outside the shop.

Love the banter between les commerçants du marché  and we had slipped into a Tuesday routine, quite a contrast to when we first opened the shop.

We will start emptying the shop tomorrow and we are at present on the lookout for new premises closer to the village in which we live.

The Fabulously French Boutique will continue to open Thursday mornings and is also open by appointment.

As they say one door closes and another opens, so am hoping that the other opens soon.....

à demain, Leeann x

shop update...

Bonjour mes belles,

This post is a bit later than I would have liked but I have a good excuse for being late. We had a RDV to collect some furniture for the shop and unfortunately it rained this morning which was not the best of conditions for moving furniture.

First up is a set of 6 Sarreguemines Napoleon III plates which are and very decorative. They come from a local château and have been well looked after, with all in immaculate condition. I am selling them individually, they are 20 euros each and would look fabulous displayed on the wall.

You can find them on the new arrivals page.

Another newbie is this rocaille style candelabra, again very decorative and with only one branch it does not take up a lot of room.

This lantern was one of a pair but unfortunately the other had a panel of glass that was broken so I thought it best to leave it where it was. Collection only as I would hate to post it only to have it arrive broken.

This is a stunning rare vintage French original senior Officers Pompier kepi cap. Pompier is a fireman in France. You will find more détails here.

I am off to start dinner and as usual are running late....

à très bientôt, Leeann x

French Food Friday.:::..Pissaladiere parcel

photo and recipe from here

Bonjour mes belles,

This week's recipe is a speciality of southern France that's a bit like pizza. Made with goat's cheese, onions and garlic - it really is delicious.

Pissaladiere Parcel

Serves: 6

Total Time: 3 hrs 25 mins

Prep Time: 1 hr 40 mins

Cook Time: 1 hr 45 mins

  • 900 gram(s) onions
  • 3  garlic cloves
  • 200 gram(s) goat's cheese
  • 8  anchovy fillets (see Cook's Tips)
  • 90ml (6tbsp) olive oil
  • 1 sprig(s) rosemary or 5ml (1 level tsp) dried
  • 375 gram(s) strong, plain white flour
  • 2.5ml (½level tsp) easy-blend dried yeast
  • 5ml (1 level tsp) salt
  • Flour for sprinkling
  • 1  beaten egg
  • Rosemary sprigs and sea salt to sprinkle

  • Method
    1. Peel and finely slice onions and garlic. Crumble the cheese; chop the anchovies. Heat 60ml (4tbsp) oil; add onions, garlic and rosemary. Lay greaseproof paper over the onions; cover pan with a tight-fitting lid. Simmer over a low heat for 45min, stirring occasionally, adding water if onions look dry. Drain onions, reserving the liquid.
    2. For the dough, stir together flour and yeast; make a well. Add reserved onion liquid made up to 300ml (½ pint) with warm water, remaining oil and salt, stirring until a soft dough is formed. Knead for 10min (4-5min in a mixer). Shape into a ball; place in a oiled bowl. Leave for 45min until doubled in size.
    3. Mix the crumbled cheese and chopped anchovies into the cooked onion mixture.
    4. Roll dough out to a 30.5cm (12in) round. Lift on to a lightly floured baking sheet. Spread onion mixture over, leaving a 6.5cm (2½in) border. Lightly brush border with water. Bring up sides to cover the filling; seal well. Place another non-stick baking sheet on top of parcel and invert it, so the seal is underneath. Press down lightly.
    5. Make deep, diagonal slashes across the top, 1cm (½in) apart; prove for 30min or until spongy. Brush lightly with beaten egg. Sprinkle with rosemary and sea salt.
    6. Cook at 220°C (200°C fan) mark 7 for 45min-1hr (if it over-browns, cover with greaseproof paper). Cool for 5min.
PREPARE AHEAD Complete to end of step 5. Refrigerate for up to 4hr. TO SERVE Complete the recipe. COOK'S TIPS If you omit the anchovies, this dish will be suitable for vegetarians.

"Are pink coats in fashion? For real? We absolutely didn't know anything about that!"
I know, I know this is not exactly an exclusive news.
Maybe more THEBIGTREND of the season. But as the web seems to be a big-pink-fluffy-cloud I think the streets are still quite (pink) empty.
So let's make it a winter en rose!

    new arrivals...

    Bonjour,

I hope that you had a fabulous weekend, ours was a lovely sunny and very warm one.

Meteo advises that the heat is going to stay with us all week long and I for one am not complaining as it gives me a chance to leave the windows wide open and let the house respire, before we are obliged to keep the windows closed in order to keep the warmth in.

I have added a few new items to the shop including this fabulous clock....

a rocaille style pot also painted to match......we have 2 of these available

plus a very decorative vintage style clock which is in perfect working order.....
